The Wisdom in the Pause

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much healing lives in the pause.
Not the dramatic, earth-shattering pause.
But the quiet one.
The breath before you answer.
The moment your feet hit the floor in the morning and you remember—this is your life.
The soft space between one task and the next.

So many of us live in a constant stream of doing, producing, tending, and caretaking.
And while there’s deep meaning in showing up for life…
We’re not built to run nonstop.

The nervous system—your beautiful inner compass—needs rhythm. It needs rest.
And when we pause with intention, something remarkable happens:

  • Our cortisol levels drop.

  • Our creativity returns.

  • Our hearts beat in a softer rhythm.

  • And our body, often ignored, starts whispering again.

A Pause is Not a Breakdown—It’s a Reset

Through my work in NeuroSomatic healing, I’ve seen time and again that the most profound shifts happen not during the doing, but in the moment after.

In the exhale.

In the stillness that follows a good cry.
In the 30 seconds you spend with your hand on your heart before you open another tab.
In the one song you dance to between client sessions.

These aren’t “extras.” These are essential.

Try This: A One-Minute Nervous System Reset

Right now, take one minute. Yes—just one.

  • Sit or stand.

  • Feel your feet.

  • Let your shoulders drop.

  • Close your eyes if you want.

  • Take a breath in… and an even slower breath out.

  • Whisper: “I’m allowed to rest.”

Your body hears you. Your system responds.

What This Has Taught Me

I don’t need to earn rest.
I don’t need to wait until I’m burned out to slow down.
And neither do you.

As the seasons shift, as summer slowly arrives with its light and bloom, I’m choosing to build in more of these sacred pauses—not as luxury, but as practice.

A pause isn’t an escape. It’s an arrival.

May you pause often.
May you listen deeply.
May you remember that your breath, your body, and your joy are all part of the healing.

With love,
Rachel
